Asper Biotech is a genetic testing company, established in 1999 as a spin-off of a research organization called the Estonian Biocentre which employs scientists, professors and Ph.D.s. Since then Asper Biotech has quickly became a leading Estonian biotechnology exporter due to our extensive services and the quality of the results.
The company’s unique technology Arrayed Primer Extension (APEX) allows simultaneous, cost effective detection of hundreds DNA alterations in many different genes. In addition to APEX we offer testing by Sanger sequencing, next generation sequencing, MLPA analysis, and other technologies.
Asper Biotech is an expert at developing state-of-the-art genetic tests for common and rare genetic diseases. Among others, Asper Biotech is specialized in retinal disorders, reproductive medicine and oncology. Asper Ophthalmics testing portfolio includes a comprehensive panel of tests targeting hereditary eye disorders. Asper Oncogenetics and Asper Reprogenetics offer an increasing number of tests aimed respectively to determine cancer predisposition and reproductive problems. Reprogenetical portfolio also includes tests for prenatal diagnostics.
Besides genetic diagnostic services, Asper Biotech offers custom genotyping for national and global science and research organizations. Company is an appreciated scientific partner for many international R&D projects due to the innovation-driven approach and long-lasting experience.
Asper Biotech’s laboratory is an authorized medical laboratory, CLIA (#99D2046227) and ISO 9001:2008 certified. Asper Biotech is participating in the European Molecular Genetics Quality Network (EMQN) quality assessment schemes in order to obtain the external quality control for mutation scanning and improve our testing services.

Asper Biotech employs 40 experienced and highly educated medical doctors, scientists, technicians, administrative and management personnel. Our team has 13 years of experience in developing innovative ideas and successful partnerships.
Asper Biotech’s 600m2 laboratory is fully equipped with the latest technologies and employed with the most skilled lab personnel trained to work according to the highest quality standards, providing our partners with an ideal laboratory for their genetic testing needs.
Asper Biotech’s genetic testing clients enjoy the benefits of full service and support. We offer flexibility in sample material so that blood, saliva, and DNA samples can be submitted for testing.
The R&D department consists of PhD and MSc level geneticists that offer custom test development, beginning with the selection or validation of genetic markers and subsequently establishing proper test result interpretations.
Asper Biotech is investing increasing amounts of resources into the development of a proper IT platform around genetic testing, starting with customized reports, automatic interpretation, sample logistics, and an e-commerce system. All of those features are integral parts of the complete workflow. Our customers and partners can take advantage of this platform by integrating it into their businesses.

Asper Biotech clients are composed of medical professionals, scientists, and business partners from more than 40 countries worldwide. Our customer base includes scientific groups from leading institutions such as Columbia University (USA), Stanford University (USA), University College of London, and the Institute of Ophthalmology (UK). An increasing number of customers are from public and private diagnostic laboratories which offer genetic testing as part of their patient surveillance. A number of customers are from commercial entities with an emphasis on integrating genetic testing into their larger programs (pharmacogenetics, direct to consumer testing, etc).
Research and development
Asper Biotech is a renowned scientific partner in national and international research projects thanks to its innovation driven approach. The company has been a partner in more than 30 FP6 and FP7 project proposals. Scientific articles are published annually in peer reviewed scientific journals.
