Eelk\u00f5ige m\u00f5jutab see haigus noori t\u00e4iskasvanud mehi.<\/p>\n<p>Haigus kandub j\u00e4reltulijatele edasi vaid ema kaudu (isaliini pidi p\u00e4ritavust ei esine) ning vastavad mutatsioonid esinevad mitokondriaalses genoomis. Tuntakse kolme haigusseoselist mutatsiooni (m.11778G&gt;A, m.3460G&gt;A ja m.14484T&gt;C) ning enamasti on LHON p\u00f5hjustatud \u00fche sellise geneetilise muutuse poolt. Mutatsioon\u00a0m.11778G&gt;A esineb ligikaudu 90% Aasia p\u00e4ritolu ja\u00a050-70% kaukasoidset p\u00e4ritolu\u00a0LHON patsientidel. Mutatsioon m.14484T&gt;C esineb\u00a0ligikaudu 86%\u00a0Kanada Quebeci\u00a0piirkonna\u00a0LHON patsientidel. Mutatsioon m.3460G&gt;A esineb\u00a0ligikaudu 20% Euroopa p\u00e4ritolu patsientidel.<\/p>\n<p>P\u00f5hja-Euroopa populatsioonides kannab iga 9000 inimene \u00fchte nimetatud mutatsiooni.
