Genotyping at Asper Biotech
Asper Biotech develops genetic tests based on a set of genetic markers selected to be most suitable for your research project or medical diagnostics application.
Our experienced scientific team selects the most appropriate technology based on the number of SNPs and samples to be analyzed, among other criteria. Asper Biotech assigns a personal project manager, who is available for the customer throughout the project.
Genetic tests can be developed for various species for which the complete genomic sequence is available.
Our technology of choice, arrayed primer extension, is capable of detecting different types of genetic variations. Other platforms and technologies such as Illumina, sequencing, and restriction enzyme digestions are also available.
There is no requirement to analyze all the samples of the project at once; the developed and validated test will be stored at Asper Biotech for up to 18 months from the arrival of the last batch of DNA samples.
Asper Biotech cost-effectively updates existing tests as often as required by the customer within a short time-frame. Asper Biotech’s clinical personnel offer interpretation for an increasing number of genetic tests.

Ensuring the highest possible quality standards
Asper Biotech is a highly experienced genetic testing laboratory founded in 1999 and ISO 9001 certified since 2000. The tests developed and used in routine screening are regularly evaluated by independent quality control studies. For example, our Cystic Fibrosis mutation detection panel has passed the European Quality Assessment Scheme for CF.
The variety of technologies available at Asper Biotech allows one to establish protocols for applying two complementary technologies to the same sample or simply to screen the mutation findings using a secondary technology. The high number of returning customers from more than 30 countries worldwide provides evidence of our high quality standards.
Test development process
The process of developing a new project begins with understanding the complete background of the planned project.
When information about genetic variations is available, the appropriate technological platform can be selected. Based on the selected technology, specific bioinformatics tools will be applied to primer designs and in-silico validations.
Development of the test ends with ordering primers and other reagents required for the test from carefully selected long-term suppliers.
Validation is performed using wild-type DNA samples from Asper Biotech’s DNA repository. Additional validation protocols can by performed using positive DNA samples sent by the customer.
Upon completing development, Asper Biotech is ready to accept samples for routine analysis. Our laboratory accepts extracted DNA, blood, saliva, buccal swabs, and Guthrie-cards. Extracted DNA can be stored at Asper Biotech’s DNA bank for later use.
Starting a project
Planning a project is as easy as sending an email to genotyping@asperbio.com with a brief description of your project including the following information:
- How many genetic variations are to be tested from approximately how many genes?
- What is the organism of interest?
- How many samples are to be analyzed? What is the time period for sample collection?
Our experienced project manager will contact you with additional focused questions in order to arrange project details such as cost, technology, and time.
